On behalf of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), in response to a request from the White House, Bob Berkebile, a founding Principal of BNIM, helped to recruit and facilitate a team of more than 100 of the nation’s leading experts on environmental design to develop recommendations for the Administration’s consideration to improve the efficiency, quality and durability of the White House Old Executive Office Building Complex and improve the health and productivity of the occupants.
Former President Clinton announced the implementation of these recommendations during his Earth Day address on April 21, 1994. Restoration and reconstruction took place on both the White House and Old Executive Office Building as a result of the expert team’s recommendations.
