The Greening of the Pentagon was the first and most prominent Department of Defense showcase facility in a program to promote the transfer of efficiency technologies to the nation’s 500,000 federal buildings. BNIM Principal, Bob Berkebile helped facilitate a planning process that included the leading experts in resource and energy efficiency technologies. The team’s recommendations for the $1.2 billion restoration were organized into five sections: energy; building ecology; water, landscaping and grounds; materials, waste and resource management; and cultural and behavioral change.
