Stanley Museum of Art Receives Honorable Mention for MAAM Buildy Award

The University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art has been recognized with an Honorable Mention as part of the Buildy Awards from the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM). The Buildy Awards recognize the most outstanding recent museum building projects nationally, emphasizing the important role of museums in serving future generations. We are proud that the Stanley Museum of Art has been honored by MAAM’s Buildy Awards program and honored to share this meaningful recognition alongside the incredible team at the Stanley Museum of Art!

The University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art establishes a new cultural arts destination that creates a state-of-the-art and resilient home for the museum’s extensive and world-renowned collection. When historic flooding of the Iowa River impacted The University of Iowa campus, the University’s art museum was left without a permanent home on campus. The museum envisioned a new destination on campus that would serve as a reimagined library and laboratory for the arts and support its mission in encouraging transformative encounters with works of art and contemplation of the human story. In addition to enabling the Stanley Museum of Art to leverage its collection for teaching, learning, and research, the new facility provides the program space for the museum to extend its reach to communities across Iowa and beyond as it hosts visiting artists, round table discussions, community arts programming, and academic initiatives that introduce new lenses through which visitors engage with the collection.

Congratulations to this year’s Buildy Award recipient, The Missouri Botanical Garden Jack C. Taylor Visitor Center, and our fellow Honorable Mention recipients, the Mattatuck Museum Expansion and the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Redesign. The Buildy Award and Honorable Mentions will be presented at the annual MAAM Building Museums Symposium on March 7, 2025.
