Des Moines Airport Groundbreak

The Des Moines International Airport celebrated a groundbreaking collaboration with BNIM and HNTB for a visionary New Terminal Project on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023. The project aims to redefine the airport experience and welcome travelers through a new front door to Metropolitan Des Moines and Iowa. This 260,000 GSF development encompasses all major infrastructure for new check-in, baggage handling, concessions/retail, and security screening, ensuring a seamless and comfortable passenger experience.

“As collaborating designers of the new Des Moines International airport with our valued partner HNTB, we are thrilled by the groundbreaking of the new terminal. This state-of-the-art airport will serve as a new front door to the metropolitan Des Moines area and the State of Iowa, setting a welcoming tone for all travelers. With a focus on creating an inviting and passenger-friendly environment, our design emphasizes ample natural light and intuitive wayfinding. One standout feature is the Meeter Greeterspace, separated by a glass wall to the secure side of the terminal, which allows loved ones to connect with passengers whether they are entering the secure area or arriving from the gates. This airport will truly reflect the warm, welcoming, and thriving spirit of Iowa.”
