A Discussion of Inclusive Design at the Tom and Ruth Harkin Center on Iowa Public Radio
River to River, hosted by Ben Kieffer of Iowa Public Radio, featured conversation on The Harkin Institute for Public Policy and Citizen Engagement and its new home of the Tom and Ruth Harkin Center at Drake University, a model for universal and inclusive design. Former Senator Tom Harkin, Daniel Van Sant, director of disability policy at the Harkin Institute, and Kevin Nordmeyer, BNIM principal, discussed the Institute’s work and values, the Tom and Ruth Harkin Center’s inclusive design strategies, the impact of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the continued path to equity today.
Kevin Nordmeyer shared about BNIM’s experience working with the Harkin Institute’s Core Advisory Committee on People with Disabilities to inform design of the Tom and Ruth Harkin Center and the development of guiding principles for the project.
