KCI Parking Garage designed with accessibility in mind wins a Judges’ Special Recognition at the 2024 KCBJ Capstone Awards

On May 1st, the Kansas City International (KCI) Airport Garage was honored with a Judges’ Special Recognition Award at the Kansas City Business Journal (KCBJ) 2024 Capstone Awards. The KCBJ Capstone Awards “honor the top real estate and development projects in the Kansas City area,” and this year’s program recognized 26 projects across the metro.

The new KCI Airport parking garage, a collaborative effort by BNIM and JE Dunn, is a transformative addition to the airport's infrastructure, providing 6,219 parking stalls across its 2.5 million square feet. The design of the new garage was guided by key goals to create a quality visitor experience, implement clear navigation and intuitive wayfinding, enable passengers to move quickly from the parking garage to the check in areas, and provide convenient access to multiple modes of transportation while enhancing accessibility, safety and security, human wellness, and environmental performance, contributing to the new terminal’s overall LEED BD+C NC Gold Certification. The KCI Airport parking garage sets a new standard for airport design, seamlessly blending functionality, sustainability, and artistic expression.

“The garage was designed with accessibility in mind, in line with a project goal to minimize passengers’ distance from their cars to their gates.” -Craig Scranton, AIA, LEED AP, Principal
