The Government Employees Hospital Association (GEHA) Headquarters consolidates off-site offices into a single two-story, 47,000 square foot office building that represents the first of two phases. As the first to be located in the Rollins Meadows Office Park at the southeast corner of I-470 and Douglas Road, the building crowns the hill of the site, with an orientation desirable for passive solar conditions. Surface parking for 190 cars is provided for the first phase, within a natural landscaping design, utilizing the wetland areas and promoting regional prairie grasses and plant materials.
An expanse of south glazing incorporates light shelves that reflect daylight deep into the open office areas. These horizontal elements also act as sun screens along with natural ivy covered shading trellises to eliminate summer heat gain. The other facades have less glass to reduce heat loss and address environmental conditions. The highly insulated building enclosure features high performance window systems and glazing with top transmittance factors for good daylighting. Modern office areas incorporate improved electric lighting systems, electrified systems furniture, daylight and occupancy controls, improved air quality, and the latest in teledata distribution systems to create a healthy and efficient working environment.
